We are the 99% Who Will No Longer Accept the Injustice of the 1%

Occupy Menifee is dedicated to a peaceful protest.
We condemn without reservation any acts of violence or destruction of property committed by a person or group of people acting as a part of the Occupy movement.
We ask that anyone who joins us remains calm and not join in any negative banter with our fellow citizens. Be respectful to police, please refrain from yelling at them; singing, chanting; be civil to pedestrians and shop owners; avoid rising tensions; try to sit when there is tension rather than confront physically; be noble and be nonviolent. Respect the environment, leave it cleaner than you found it.

In Solidarity with Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Menifee begins. Guidelines:

  • We unequivocally oppose transphobia and homophobia. We are in solidarity with the LGBTQ community. We unequivocally oppose sexism, racism, ableism and religious intolerance.
  • Absolute respect.
  • We recognize and embrace the equality of our diversity as Mentifians.
  • We resist learned prejudices.
  • We share burdens by taking initiatives to fill roles and relieve comrades.
  • We encourage all voices.
  • We discuss ideas, NOT PEOPLE, and disagree without being disagreeable.
  • We avoid labeling and targeted profanity.
  • We maintain a positive expression of the “message” by not engaging unstable or volatile people.
  • We do not accept physical or verbal violence.
  • We avoid conflict through active listening and awareness of body language and emotional responses.
  • We seek to grow from our mistakes; conflicts within Occupy Menifee are opportunities to learn.
  • We are either all leaders or none of us are leaders.
  • Make friends! Make an effort to get to know people and HAVE FUN!

  • 12/30/11 Occupy Menifee General Assembly Minutes

Opening Comments: Sandy - “We need to keep going strong into next year and encourage more people to join us"
    Agenda:
Occupy Menifee Guidelines: Consensus was reached that there is interest in rewriting the Occupy Menifee Guidelines. Emails containing the current Guidelines will be emailed out by Carol. Indicate what changes, if any, you would like to make to the Guidelines and reply back to Carol with these revisions.
Carol is asking whether "adbusters" should be allowed to advertise on the OccupyMenifee.org website.
Carol is asking if there is a way to disable pop-up advertising on the OccupyMenifee.org website.
Sandy suggested that we should start meeting on the corner of Antelope and Newport, near the Del Taco, starting on Monday January 23rd from 12 to 3pm. MSJC starts back up on the 23rd of January. We need agreement on this date and the content of the flyers Sharon is making which are designed to inform MSJC students. We will discuss this in more detail next meeting.
Carol stated that she is nearly finished making a 6-foot long "Occupy Menifee" sign.
All in attendance agreed that Carol may serve as Occupy Menifee's treasurer.
It was decided that in the event of rain, Occupiers will be meeting inside the Yellow Basket on the corner of Haun and Newport at 5pm (five) to 7pm on Fridays, NOT outside from 4pm to 7pm.
Occupy Irvine, along with other occupy groups, will be holding a national day of action on January 20th to march and occupy Federal Courts. Carol is attempting to get carpool together. Starts at 11am. See http://www.occupytogether.org/ for more details.
Closing: Special thanks to Sharon for putting up meeting dates.
Occupy menifee will be meeting Friday, January 6th, 4 to 7pm at Haun and Newport.
    Hope to see you.
